Notre Dame-West Haven 28 Pomperaug 21
Pomperaug was defeated by Notre Dame-West Haven in the Class L State
Championship game on Saturday (12/05) in
Shelton. The Panthers turned the ball over five times in the 28-21 loss. The loss snapped
Pomperaug's 13 game win streak
which dated back to Week 11 of the 2008 season. The Panthers finished the season 12-1.
Their successful season
included an undefeated record in SWC play, an SWC Championship, the programs sixth state
playoff birth and a
victory in the Class L State Semifinal game against Simsbury. The Panthers were finished
5th in voting in the three major
statewide polls. Notre Dame-West Haven was ranked #1 in each of the final polls. The 2009
Team will be
remembered as one of the best teams in Pomperaug history.
In other SWC news, Bethel was defeated by Berlin 46-6 in the Class M
State Championship game on Sunday (12/06).
The Wildcats finished the season with a record of 9-3.
